Title: The Baillys: A Pioneer Family in the Dunes
Contact: ,
Location: Online
Joseph Bailly and his family were the first permanent settlers in Indiana's dune region. While Joseph has been the most talked-about Bailly, his wives and daughters were also legendary. It was through these women, all of Native American descent, that Joseph achieved vast land holdings, wealth, fur trade connections and a place in Catholic archives. This program tells the story of these women, their impact on Joseph's business and the ways in which they ensured the survival of the Bailly family legacy for almost 200 years.
Presented by Serena Ard, Westchester Public Library. Ard previously presented a Forum program on Le Petit Fort, the only Revolutionary War skirmish in Indiana.
