Berrien Ecology: What Make SW Michigan So Unique?

January 27 @ 6:00 PM 7:30 PM

Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana are among the country’s most geologically and biologically diverse regions.

Pat Fisher, president of Harbor Country Hikers, will cover a wide range of topics such as how our area was originally shaped by glaciers and the effect of thousands of years of wind that formed the dunes.

Following these phenomena, “Ecotones“ were created that act as interfaces where different large-scale ecological systems meet and exchange energy and organisms.

In modern times, these unique structures face challenges, some man-made and some the result of natural environmental change and evolution.

Ultimately, we need to ask ourselves what role

we will play in the preservation, diversity and sustainability of our unique

environment in SW Michigan.
