During World War II, the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) served in various non-combat roles, freeing up male soldiers for combat. The WAC initially started as the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1942, gaining full military status in 1943.
Approximately 150,000 women served in the WAC, contributing significantly to the war effort.
