MeLCat

MeLCat lets you request physical books, books on CD, and DVDs from libraries across Michigan.

It connects you to hundreds of libraries and tens of millions of items statewide.

If we do not have the item you want, MeLCat is a great way to borrow it from another library and have it sent here for pickup.

What can I use MeLCat for?

Use MeLCat to request:

  • physical books
  • books on CD
  • DVDs

MeLCat is a good choice if you are looking for a physical item that New Buffalo Township Library does not have.

What do I need before I start?

Before using MeLCat, make sure you have:

  • the title or author of the item you want
  • your 14-digit library card number
  • internet access

Important things to know

  • MeLCat is for physical items, not digital items
  • Items are sent to New Buffalo Township Library for pickup
  • Most requests arrive in about 7 to 10 days
  • We will call you when your item is ready

How to request an item through MeLCat

Step 1: Go to MEL.org

Go to MEL.org to begin your search.

Step 2: Search for your item

Enter the title or author you are looking for.

Step 3: Check the format

Look at the icon next to the title to see whether the item is a physical book, book on CD, or DVD.

Step 4: Request the item

Click “Get this from MeLCat”

Step 5: Enter your information

Select New Buffalo Township Library as your pickup location.

Enter your name and your 14-digit library card number.

If your card is expired, you will need to renew it before completing the request.

Step 6: Submit your request

Click Submit. You should see a confirmation message.

We will call you when your item is ready for pickup.

Items must be returned to New Buffalo Township Library.
